Large-scale DNS Measurements

Why am I receiving traffic from Leibniz-Rechenzentrum / Technical University of Munich?

We are a group of networking researchers at the Chair of Connected Mobility, Technical University of Munich, Germany. Time-to-time we conduct various regular and ad-hoc DNS resolutions, based on various domain toplists. Your domain is likely part of one of these lists. The measurements are purely scientific and we never attempt to intrude into any system.

We never attempt to abuse security vulnerabilities on your system, guess for passwords or upload files to your systems. We only collect information about your service that is publicly visible to the Internet.

We hope that our data collection helps us to understand the Internet better. We are an academic institution and will try to publish all our findings to a wider audience.

I do not want to be part of this research. How can I opt out?

Please send us an e-mail with hostnames/IP network ranges and we will add your network to our blacklist for future scans.

What are you measuring exactly?

In the current study, we are looking to find the availability of DNS Servers supporting DoQ. Specifically we want to analyze and compare the different DNS protocols (Do53, DoTCP, DoT, DoH, DoQ).
